Terminology

Five Precepts

Reigi o omonzubeshi               "Respect and manners"

Taido o imashimubeshi           "Be prudent in action"

Gengo o tsutsushimubeshi      "Be prudent in speech"

Iki o sakan ni subeshi             "Keep high spirited"

Seiketsu o mune to subeshi     "Keep yourself clean"

The number in parenthesis indicates the kyu for which the term is required to be known verbally.  The student will be required to know the term in a written form at one kyu below the kyu at which they must know it verbally.  For example, (7th) means that one must know this term verbally in order to test for 7th kyu (or 2nd degree yellow belt) and be able to write it in order to test for 6th kyu (1st degree blue belt).  Students begin taking written exams at 6th kyu.  An 85% must be made on the exam in order to earn the promotion.
